IGK Hair | 7 Products Tested

IGK is a cruelty free hair brand found at Sephora. Their whole vibe is trendy packaging, classic perfume scents and lots of aresole sprays.

Ironically, everything from the company I love is in cream form even though their main 'thing' is the aresole cans. The aresole cans just don't do it for me. I feel like I would like them if the fragrance was removed and they were housed in a spray bottle instead to avoid breathing in fumes. But if you're into cream or gel hair conditioning products or styling creams, I highly recommend them as long as you are not sensitive to perfume-like fragrance.

Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm - $29 USD | $35 CAD

A leave-in conditioning balm that melts into hair to instantly boost hydration and reduce frizz.

Introducing the star of the show for myself. This use to be marketed as a balm but they changed it to Leave-In Conditioner which I find to be more accurate. I apply this on damp-wet hair. It conditions my hair in a very lightweight way. I love it for that. It's really been working amazing for me! I even got compliments on  how much better my fried hair felt. A few months ago I praised the Verb Ghost Styling Lotion and Curl Cream for curls but they contain glue which prevent the ability for fingers to easily run through hair. I like this way more for curl enhancing because my curls don't stick together and are weightless. I know it's not marketed as a curl enhancer but I really like it for that. Frizz is reduced and shine is increased a tad. I found this did de-tangle slightly but it mostly worked as a hair moisturizer/curl conditioner which is what it claims to do. The scent was also pleasant and not overwhelming. If there's one thing I recommend you get, it's this. I'm also curious about their Expensive Amla Oil Hi-Shine Topcoat.

Rich Kids Coconut Oil Gel $29 USD | $35 CAD.

A lightweight, coconut oil-infused styler for tousled, air-dried texture and smooth shine.

This was another good product for me. It's a lightweight cream that provides a little slip on wet hair but more importantly gives texture and defines waves-curls in a lightweight way. When applied to damp hair, your hair won't be stuck together like glue. The scent is stronger and more masculine than the Mistress Balm/Leave-In Conditioner which is lighter so I like it a little less for that but I love the formula.

Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scrub $36 USD | $44 CAD.

A salt-free cooling scalp shampoo and exfoliator that removes buildup and purifies the scalp and hair.

This is something I wouldn't have taken a second look at online or in store but the idea of a hair scrub intrigued me so I tested it right away. This scrub contains sugar and walnut shell pieces which exfoliate the scalp. It's suspended in a mixture that surprisingly washes out of hair. But it straight up feels like you're rubbing a face scrub in your hair. It sticks to your hair. There is no bubbling action so you need to keep adding more scrub to your head to cover it's entire surface. The exfoliation actually felt substantial but too abrasive. I think this really helps blood flow. The only thing is, the peppermint oil provides a burning effect (or cooling depending how you want to look at it) on your recently scrubbed head. Bad idea.

First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo - $27 USD$32 CAD.

A powerful dry shampoo that cleanses even the most oily hair and scalp with oil-erasing, odor-eliminating charcoal powder.

This product did work but I don't like aerosol dry shampoo either. I understand they are less messy than loose powder but they're also not healthy to breathe. And like every aerosol dry shampoo i've used, this made my head itchy. Must be the alcohol denat. The fragrance mixed with butane, propane, alcohol denat and literally tensed up my lungs. Using this once was enough for me.

Thirsty Girl Coconut Milk Leave-In Conditioner - $28 USD | $34 CAD

A coconut milk-infused leave-in conditioner nourishes and protects hair, adds shine, and controls frizz for up to 24-hours.

I had a lot of anticipation trying this product as it sounded like it was just what my hair needed. My expectation was that using this product would make my bleached hair easier to run my fingers through, more shiny and less dry. So did it do that? A little but it was not what I expected. It's very lightweight. I assumed the spray would be clear but it sprays white foam instead that you have to disperse through your hair, defeating the purpose of the aerosol. I don't like the smell, it's very male perfume smelling. I get headaches from certain fragrance and this gave me one.

Trust Issues Instant Scalp Rebalancing Treatment $29 USD | $35 CAD.

An instant, non-greasy scalp treatment that helps to soothe, rebalance, and relieve a dry, itchy scalp.

This is another pass for me. The smell is nauseating for my sensitives. That aside, I don't really think it's a necessary product. The first 3 ingredients are butane, alcohol denat and propane, not much of a healthy mixture for your scalp.

Good Behavior Spirulina Protein Smoothing Spray - $32 USD | $38 CAD.

A heat-protective blowout spray that mimics the smooth, frizz-free results of a keratin treatment.

This is an interesting product. You spray it on your damp hair and blowdry it to seal the treatment in. I personally didn't test this product much because the scent was too much for me.
