Upon opening, my first impression was that it didn't look how I thought it would. . I've compared images all over the web to mine, it seems the brush has gone through some redevelopments or improvements. through the years.
Open it up, brush was obviously flattened from the packaging so not that fluffy. I also thought it was too long and flimsy. I washed it twice and really beat it up. When I say beat it up, I mean I stabbed it into my palm to give it it's rounded and more fluffy shape. That fixed it up a ton.
The E40 has a flatter cut top. It's not as rounded so it covers more surface area evenly when blending. The diameter of the brush makes it cover my browbone/crease area perfectly. I really appreciate the cut actually. I don't know why it's still called the tapered blending brush though. When I look at it, I don't think of it as pointed. It's slightly rounded, but pretty flat at the top.
The length of it is not a problem like I thought it was when I first got it. The brush forces a delicate blend which I like. When a blending brush is too compact, stiff or short, it's harder to control. The bristles are soft and I haven't lost one hair but if you did through a first wash, it's nothing to worry about.

When you're using a silicone mat, use ample soap so that the bristles are not tugged on and don't pull on the the bristles to wring water out. I use this brush everyday. I really enjoy it, it's one of my favourites now. It's the easiest to use for blending and fastest.
